AR 1520 CME Aurorae Abound!

The above image is an overview of the current aurora activity over the north pole (left) and south pole (right) as of today (July 15th) at 11:29 UTC (7:29 AM EDT). The images are extrapolated from measurements taken during the most recent polar pass of the NOAA POES satellite. Image Credit: NOAA/Space Weather Prediction Center

As of Sunday, July 15th, NOAA/National Weather Service reports the geomagnetic storm activity to have risen to moderate (G2) as a result of the ongoing coronal mass ejection (CME) produced from the sun's Active Region AR 1520 on July 12th. No further significant activity has occured, and while AR 1520 has become less of a threat, it still has the potential for further activity. Stay tuned...
