U.S. Pres. Calling MSL/Curiosity Team at 8 PT/11 ET

Today, August 13th, at 8:00 AM PDT / 11:00 AM EDT, U.S. President Barack Obama will call and congratulate team members of NASA's Mars Science Laboratory / Curiosity rover mission. The audio and video of the mission team's portion of the call will be carried live on NASA Television and the agency's website. It will also be streamed live to www.ustream.tv/nasajpl . Shortly after the event, a recording of the event should be available at the same URL.

President Obama's call comes a week after Curiosity landed on the Red Planet. Curiosity carries the most advanced science payload ever used on Mars' surface. During the next two years, it will use its 10 instruments to investigate whether conditions have been favorable for microbial life and for preserving clues in the rocks about possible past life.

Curiosity was designed, developed and assembled at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, California, which is also the location of Curiosity mission control.
